Welcome to Affirmation of Baptism Class!
Hi! This page is especially for CtK's 6th-8th grade youth and their parents. Welcome!
Affirmation of Baptism Class (aka "Confirmation") is all about helping you to get ready to... wait for it... Affirm your baptism!
What does that mean, exactly? Well, since in our tradition, we baptize babies, kids, adults, really-old adults, pretty much everyone, because the grace of God is for everyone, and God loves us before we can love God back, "Affirmation of Baptism" is a time for you to say "yes!" to God's choosing you.
On the day you affirm your baptism, you will be asked to profess your faith, using the words of the Apostles Creed, and you will be asked this question:
Do you intend to continue in the covenant God made with you in holy baptism:
to live among God's faithful people,
to hear the word of God and share in the Lord's supper,
to proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed,
to serve all people, following the example of Jesus,
and to strive for justice and peace in all the earth?
And we hope and pray that you will be prepared to answer, "I do, and I ask God to help and guide me."
In order to help you prepare to commit publically to living intentionally in the covenant of baptism, all kinds of people are praying for you and ready to help you learn what it means to love God and love your neighbor as yourself. During your middle school years you will read the foundational stories of our faith in the Hebrew (Old) and Christian (New) Testaments of the Bible. You will learn about Lutheran understandings and expressions of Christian faith, particularly Martin Luther's Small Catechism. You will continue to grow in following Jesus with the rest of the congregation, as we worship, learn and serve together.
